Roll Shutters
Roll Shutters - Measuring Instructions
1. Identify opening location.
2. Measure width and height of opening from
the outside.
3. Is it recess or surface mount installation?
If the shutter is to be recessed you can
skip the following steps.
4. Measure above the opening to determine
if you have adequate space above the opening
for the shutter hood. Small openings, 48"
or less in height, will require 8";
an opening 80" high will require 9";
an opening 120" high will require 13"
of clear space above the opening.
5. Make sure you have 3" of clear space
on each side of the opening for the side
tracks. If you don't have adequate space,
then give us a call to determine if we can
suggest another installation procedure,
consider storm panels or Bahama shutters.
6. Decide if you want manual or electric
operation: motorized, motorized with manual
override, gear operation, and strap operator.
7. Is opening window or door?
8. Protection Level - Light, Moderate or
Hurricane
9. Determine which side of the shutter the
operator will be on.
10. Determine the position of the operator
as it exits the hood and end cap.
11. Choose the handle length. Measure from
the ground where you would be standing when
operating to the imaginary point where the
operator will be and subtract 5'. This is
does not require an exact measurement. You
can always shorten the handle if it is to
long.
12. Choose handle color.
13. Choose hood shape.
14. Choose shutter assembly color.
Please note: A built-in
installation will require a set of construction
plans showing elevations with accurate window
and door placement, floor plan, window and
door schedule, and construction details
for windows and doors.
